Visit Of All-Party Delegation To Italy 27-28 May 2025
An All-Party delegation of Members of Parliament (M.Ps) and eminent persons from India arrived in Rome. The delegation of eight MPs from both Houses of Parliament and major political parties, is led by Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad from the Lok Sabha (lower house).
The visit is taking place in the context of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Kashmir on 22 April, Operation Sindoor by India to destroy the cross-border terrorist infrastructure and subsequent developments.
After the Pahalgam terrorist attack, India has undertaken a global diplomatic outreach to articulate the country’s unified position about zero-tolerance for terrorism, in all its forms and manifestations. Seven multi-party delegations are visiting key capitals across the world to share the message about India’s unwavering commitment to address the global scourge of terrorism.
The delegation led by Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad is visiting Italy, France, Denmark, Germany, the U.K and the European Union in Brussels. Their discussions and interactions in Italy are aimed at strengthening India’s bilateral and international cooperation to combat terrorism. The visit will further enhance mutual understanding between India and Italy and strengthen the growing strategic partnership.
In Rome, the delegation would be interacting with the Members of Parliament, think tanks and media. They will also meet a cross-section of vibrant Indian community in Italy.
Since the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, the leadership of India and Italy have been in contact with each other. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni posted on X immediately after the attack conveying her sadness and closeness to the Government and people of India. She spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 24 April to reiterate condolences and Italy’s commitment to combat international terrorism. She also called for strengthening bilateral dialogue and joint action in this area. The Minister of Defence Guido Crosetto expressed deep sorrow for the cowardly terrorist attack and his full solidarity with the people of India. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani spoke to the Minister of External Affairs of India.
