DRDO Showcases Next-Gen Defence Innovations in International Defence and Security Expo LAAD 2025 at Brazil

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the R&D wing of the Ministry of Defence, Government of India is going to exhibit Next-Gen Defence Innovations at Latin America Aerospace and Defence (LAAD) 2025, the international defence and security fair from April 1-4, 2025 at Riocentro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. DRDO is participating in the expo as part of the combined strength of India Pavilion with India’s private industries, Defence PSUs, and Start-ups.

DRDO is primarily engaged in system definition, design and development of many state-of-the-art military systems and technologies for realising the goals of ‘Make in India and Make for the World’ like Missiles and Missile-based Air Defence System, Light Combat Aircraft, Main Battle Tanks, Gun System, UAVs, Counter UAVs System, Multi-barrel Rocket Launcher, Radars, Naval Systems and Soldier Support System. In doing so with its industry production partners, DRDO has catalyzed the military-industrial ecosystem in India.

India has been fostering its indigenous defence manufacturing capacity and DRDO has been at the forefront of this development. India continues to look at defence as a major avenue to strengthen geopolitical relations as well as enhance exports with friendly nations. Defence exports of a country will always be subjected to the strength of its R&D ecosystem, which in India is driven by DRDO with a vision to empower India with cuttingedge defence technologies thereby enabling self-reliance and parallelly enhancing exports. Not just indigenous demand, DRDO products and technologies today contribute immensely to exports.

Many DRDO developed systems are inducted into the Indian Armed Forces after extensive field evaluation. In the process, these DRDO systems attained benchmark of international standards and, therefore, created an interest among several nations and some of them have been exported too.

As a key participant, DRDO will present a suite of cutting-edge systems that highlight India’s growing capabilities as a global defence technology leader. The following DRDO products will take the centre stage at the event:

Low Frequency Dunking Sonar (LFDS-X) : LFDS-X is an integrated airborne sonar system for AntiSubmarine Warfare (ASW) which can be deployed from rotary wing platforms.

Air Borne Early warning & Control System (AEW&C) : The airborne surveillance system mounted on Embraer-145 aircraft, is a force multiplier system of systems for detecting & tracking of enemy/hostile aircrafts/ UAVs etc.

Advanced Light Weight Torpedo (ALWT): ALWT is a state-of the art second generation torpedo with high speed & long range developed for Anti-Submarine Warfare and can engage submarines effectively in various underwater conditions.

Very Short Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS): A Man Portable Air Defence System meant for neutralising low altitude aerial threats at short ranges.

Guided Pinaka MLRS: Guided Pinaka is fire and forget guided artillery rocket system capable of launching 08 Guided Pinaka Rockets in a short span of just 42 seconds at 08 different targets.

RudraM-II (Air-to-Surface Missile): RudraM-II is an indigenously-developed solid-propelled air-launched missile system meant for Air-to-Surface role to neutralise many types of enemy assets.

LCA AF Mk2 : State of the art multi-role supersonic fighter with canard-delta configuration, increased weapon carrying ability and advanced tactical data link capability.

Wheeled Armoured Platform (WhAP) : WhAP is a modular 8X8 wheeled combat platform carried on a 70-ton Trailer customised for various roles. It can be used as a Wheeled Infantry Combat Vehicle, CBRN Vehicle, ATGM carrier, Light Tank etc.

Dornier Mid Life Upgrade (Shyen): Shyen is state-of-art integrated maritime surveillance suite to provide Maritime Domain Awareness picture.

Multi-Sensor Data Fusion (MSDF) for Airborne Surveillance Systems : It is a fusion of various sensor inputs for automatic identification of targets, automatic assessment of threats and generation of Common Operating Picture (COP).

Dr Samir V Kamat, Secretary Department of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO wishes grand success to the event for increased defence cooperation between India and Brazil and substantive industry presence in the expositions, continuing the legacy of India-Brazil defence relations. The participation is an opportunity for DRDO for opening of new collaboration avenues, and finding new markets for DRDO products in the region. DRDO along with Indian industry is capable to produce quality defence systems for export, which would help in establishing and nurturing a long term relationships with friendly countries. and strengthening their Defence Forces and Homeland Security.
