Asha Dialogue 2025
The International Day of Women in Diplomacy, the Embassy of Ireland hosted the ‘Asha Dialogue 2025’ to mark Ireland’s Presidency of the EU Gender Championship from 1st July. The event was hosted in partnership with the Embassy of Slovenia, the outgoing Presidential Member State and with external partner Asha India Foundation. Asha India have been working in New Delhi’s slums since 1999 to provide access to education, essential medical care, as well as a wide range of other support and benefits to the capital’s urban communities.
The Asha Dialogue is designed as a student’s debate to promote dialogue on the role played by women as leaders, negotiators, policy-makers, decision-makers and the challenges that women face in a male-dominated field like diplomacy. The event facilitated interactive discussions and exchanges on the contributions, challenges and opportunities for women in diplomacy and foreign policy within today’s global geopolitical context. The discussion also put a larger focus on how a more gender-equal workforce can contribute to India’s future.
The motion of the debate was ‘This House believes that more women participation and leadership in politics will lead to less wars across the globe’. The team in favour of the motion won the debate.
The event proved to be a valuable outreach exercise and was key in promoting youth outreach in a positive environment, giving a platform to young students to debate the problems of today and discuss solutions for the future. The event was attended by the Ambassadors of Austria, Netherlands and High Commissioner of New Zealand in addition to local students from several NGOs.
