Her family members released on Friday a picture of their reunion on a social media platform.
“Grandma is here, healthy and beautiful. Thank you people of Israel,” wrote Adriana Adar, granddaughter of 85-year-old Yaffa Adar.
“Thank you to everyone who supported us. It’s the first drop in the sea, we are waiting for you Tamir Adar, waiting for everyone! All of them! Right now, right now!!” Adriana said.
Adriana was referring to her brother and Yaffa’s grandson Tamir, who are still in Hamas captivity in Gaza.
‘Mom’s back’
The family of Margalit Moses, who too was freed Friday, posted a happy picture of the 78-year-old being surrounded by her loved ones.
“Mom’s back!” her son Yair Moses captioned the photo.
On October 7, both Yaffa and Margalit were kidnapped from Kibbutz Nir Oz in southern Israel. The incident unfolded as Hamas gunmen carried out a surprise attack on Israel, unleashing a combination of land, sea, and air assaults.
The assault took place during Simchat Torah, a religious holiday, and the weekly Shabbat, catching Israel off guard. The attack resulted in the tragic death of 1200 civilians, with almost 240 others seized and transported to Gaza using various means such as motorbikes, trucks, vans, or golf carts.
Considered as the most lethal assault since the Holocaust, Israel has declared its determination to seek retaliation. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has personally assured the affected families that his government is committed to relentless efforts until all 240 individuals are safely returned home.
Four-days truce
The release of hostages held in Gaza as part of a temporary truce between Israel and Hamas brought a sigh of relief to their families. The reunions and even the mere news of their return brought tears, and disbelief to relatives and friends, many of whom had lost hope.
Hamas since Friday, in exchange for 78 Palestinian prisoners, has released hostages in two batches held captive in embattled Gaza after a tense truce brokered by Qatar, Egypt and the United States, halting a seven-week war that has seen incessant bombardment of the enclave.
