A Strong Presence of the German Economy in the Entire Asia-Pacific Region is a Decisive Factor for the Global Competitiveness of the German Economy

A Strong Presence of the German Economy in the Entire Asia-Pacific Region is a Decisive Factor for the Global Competitiveness of the German Economy

    • The EU must make attractive and easily accessible cooperation offers to like-minded partners in the region, particularly against the background of geopolitical and geo-economic aspects. The countries that are classified as the “Global South” should be kept in mind.
    • The German business community in Asia is preparing for increased geopolitical risks. We can only overcome the major challenges of our time together and in partnership. It is therefore crucial to work together with our partners in the region.
    • APK 2024 sets new standards with the participation of the Indian Prime Minister and Federal Chancellor.

“The Asia-Pacific region offers the German economy a wealth of opportunities. Companies there also want to drive forward their digital transformation and operate more sustainably. We achieve this through technology partnerships. In this way, we can improve infrastructure, healthcare, industrial production and mobility – with digitization, artificial intelligence and energy efficiency,” said the Chairman of the APA of German Business, Roland Busch, ahead of the conference. “We want to use the power of the Asia-Pacific Conference to explore new ways of cooperation and to overcome global challenges together. Mutual fairness and transparency are an essential component of this and, for the Asia-Pacific Committee, an important prerequisite for free trade and prosperity.”

Vice Chancellor and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection, Dr. Robert Habeck: “The Indo-Pacific is the most dynamic economic area in the world. Complex geopolitical challenges are developing and unfolding there as if in fast motion. It is also the most populous, most heterogeneous, most diverse region in the world. The Indo-Pacific is therefore of immense geostrategic importance for Germany and the EU. At the hubs of the global value chains, there are immense opportunities for the German economy to help shape the world and the economy of tomorrow. This is about “more” in the best sense of smart diversification: more partners, more trade, more exchange, more cooperation, more resilience.”The 18th Asia-Pacific Conference of the German Economy (APK) will take place this year from October 24 to 26, 2024 in New Delhi, India. Roland Busch, APA Chairman and CEO of Siemens AG, and Robert Habeck, Vice Chancellor and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection, will jointly chair the conference.

The APK offers the opportunity to exchange ideas on current economic developments in the region and to establish relationships. The 7th German-Indian government consultations will also take place on October 25, in which Indian Prime Minister Modi and Federal Chancellor Scholz, as well as other cabinet members, will take part and then speak at the APK.

At the APK 2024, around 750 decision-makers from politics and business, primarily from Germany and Asia-Pacific, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chancellor Olaf Scholz and ministers from other Asian countries, will analyze and discuss current political and economic trends. The APK offers a platform to discuss current economic developments in the Asia-Pacific and to build and strengthen personal and economic relationships. The opportunities that the Asia-Pacific region offers for diversification and innovation will be discussed in high-level panel discussions.

The APK is organized jointly by the APA, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK) and the German Chambers of Commerce in Asia-Pacific.

Asia-Pacific is the most important non-European region for trade for German companies. According to forecasts, the region will contribute around half of the global gross domestic product in 2050. The countries have also become increasingly important for the German economy.

For Germany, the Asian countries are therefore important sales and procurement markets as well as partners. The European Union has already concluded free trade agreements with Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea and Vietnam and is in negotiations for further agreements, for example with Australia and India.
