NEW DELHI: Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar is totally flummoxed with Indian team management’s call to not rest pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah against Bangladesh with an aim to keep him fresh for the more challenging ODI World Cup contest against New Zealand in Dharamsala on Sunday.
Bumrah, who underwent a surgery in New Zealand for a back injury, made a comeback into the team almost two months back after a long injury layoff and needs to be handled carefully as he is a vital cog in Team India‘s World Cup campaign at home.Former Indian skipper reasoned Bumrah’s break saying that the team had a three-day break between the Pakistan and Bangladesh game and if they feel that it is good enough, then it’s fine.
“They are playing the same team. The only question would have been that because they are playing a big team like New Zealand in a couple of days’ time whether Bumrah should have been given a break. Obviously, they had three days between the Pakistan game and this match against Bangladesh. They feel that’s enough. So it’s fine,” Gavaskar said while talking in the pre-match show.
“Don’t see any reason to change it (the XI). That’s important in this WC, keeping everybody in good space. The boys are in good shape, have good mental space as well and are enjoying the cricket. So far so good, we want to continue this momentum,” India skipper Rohit Sharma said at the toss.

World Cup: Will Suryakumar Yadav get a chance to prove his worth?

Bangladesh’s stand-in skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and opted to bat against an India side chasing their fourth successive victory in the tournament.
Bangladesh face the formidable challenge of putting a break to India’s winning streak in the World Cup in Pune on Thursday, but they will have to do so without their injured captain, Shakib Al Hasan.
