HYDERABAD: In an effort to bring back Indian youth forced to join a “Russian private army” and stranded in the war zone, Centre has begun enquiring into each case that has come to its notice. The bureau of immigration, under the MHA, is seeking particulars of youth who had gone to Russia from their family members.
Officials visited the family of Md Sufiyan (22) of Narayanpet, one of the victims of the job fraud.People like Sufiyan were sent to Russia by agents & vloggers who promised them jobs as helpers or in other non-combat roles in Russian army. But they were drafted into a private militia force to fight Ukrainian forces in battlefield.
“Officials asked us for details pertaining to Sufiyan taking up the job in Russia and we told them that neither we nor he was aware that he would be drafted into a private army to fight the war,” Syed Salman, Sufiyan’s brother, told TOI on Saturday.
Salman said he read the MEA statement on how India had taken the initiative to bring back Indian youth trapped along the Ukraine border. “There is, however, no clarity on the time-frame. We would like to understand how soon my brother and others will be rescued from the danger zone. This is an urgent matter. There should be no procedural delay,” Salman added.
Sufiyan was working in Dubai when he fell into the trap of job racketeers who promised a salary of Rs 1.5 lakh per month to work in Russia as a security person or helper. However, upon reaching Moscow in Dec 2023, he and three others from Karnataka’s Kalaburagi were sent to the border to fight.
