NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to take oath for the third consecutive time after two full tenures in which the BJP enjoyed a majority on its own.
The 73-year-old will be equalling the feat of first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru, who won in 1952, 1957 and 1962 general elections.
Leaders from India’s neighbourhood and the Indian Ocean Region are among the dignitaries and special invitees expected to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the prime minister and his council of ministers at Rashtrapati Bhavan at 7.15 pm.
    Here are the latest developments:
‘Accepting MoS a demotion’: NCP leader Praful Patel
Nationalist Congress Party leader Praful Patel expressed his dissatisfaction regarding the proposed ministerial position offered to him and said that accepting the role of Minister of State (MoS) with independent charge would be a step down for him.
    “Last night we were
informed that our party will get a Minister of State with independent charge. I was earlier a Cabinet Minister in the Union Government, so this will be a demotion for me. We have informed the BJP leadership and they have already told us to just wait a few days, they will take remedial measures,” Patel told reporters.
‘Be humble, never compromise on probity, transparency’: Modi to ministers
In a meeting with the , Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the importance of humility and integrity and urged them to remain grounded, as the common people admire those who are humble. PM Modi also stressed the need for probity and transparency, which should never be compromised.
With the public holding high expectations, Modi conveyed to the group that everyone will have to deliver in their roles. The meeting included both senior ministers from the outgoing government and newcomers who will be taking oath on Sunday as part of Modi’s third government.
The prime minister-designate further advised the ministers to approach their assigned tasks with sincerity and to treat all MPs, regardless of their party affiliations, with respect and dignity. He emphasized that all MPs were elected by the people and deserved to be treated as such.
Modi himself will be sworn in for a third consecutive term as prime minister on Sunday, alongside the members of his council.
Bandi Sanjay Kumar thanks PM Modi, others for his appointment as MoS in NDA Cabinet
In a post on ‘X’, he said, “From streets of Karimnagar to being recommended for appointment as Minister of State in the Council of Ministers – As I write this, I cannot express enough on how grateful I am to people of Karimnagar Parliamentary Constituency, @BJP4India President Shri @JPNadda ji,@BJP4Telangana Leaders, karyakarthas and most importantly Shri@narendramodi ji.”
“Heartful thanks to every one who encouraged me and contributed to this growth,” he said.
Kumar’s family also expressed happiness and thanked the BJP party’s leaders and cadres over his name figuring in a ministerial berth in the NDA Cabinet.
I will take oath as Cabinet minister, says Kiren Rijiju ahead of oath-taking ceremony
“I will take oath as cabinet minister around 7.30pm on 9th June 2024. In the past, I took oath 3 times as minister of state in 2014, Minister of State with Independent Charge in 2019 and as Cabinet minister in 2021. Thank you Arunachal Pradesh, Narendra Modi, BJP and people of India. I will serve the nation with greater zeal and devotion,” Rijiju said in a post on X.
Will keep working as BJP worker: Outgoing Union minister Anurag Thakur
New Delhi, Jun 9 (PTI) His name not on the new BJP-led NDA government’s list of ministers, outgoing Union Minister Anurag Thakur said Sunday he would keep working as a BJP worker and contribute to fulfilling PM-designate Narendra Modi’s resolve to make India a developed country.
Thakur congratulated Modi and his “team of ministers” and said all those who have been picked for ministerial positions in the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government are “very competent”.
They will make “every possible effort” to take the country on the path of progress, the outgoing information and broadcasting minister said.
In the just-concluded Lok Sabha elections, Thakur was reelected to the Lower House of Parliament from Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh.
