Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd has invited tenders for service providers to put up “5G small cells” on metro pillars in the elevated section along both north-south and east-west lines.
“Space on metro pillars is hereby offered for placement and operation of telecom equipment for providing mobile coverage of 5G in periphery of BMRCL metro alignment,” the tender advertisement read.
These 5G small cells will improve mobile network connectivity inside the trains and metro stations, help several types of machinery inside the station that work on data connectivity, and at the same time is an additional revenue source for BMRCL.
In 2022, Bengaluru metro became the first in the country to conduct 5G trials.
