MG Comet reportedly destroys Toyota Innova HyCross rear in unbelievable accident!

The MG Comet EV, which was launched in India earlier this year, has reportedly ‘destroyed’ the rear of a Toyota Innova HyCross in an accident on a highway. A video of the crashed cars has gone viral on social media.
Although we haven’t been able to verify the incident and how it happened, looking at the video, it clearly appears that the rear of the MPV has been severely damaged while the much smaller Comet EV hasn’t received much damage from the impact. It is to be noted that it’s not clear whether the HyCross was moving or stationary at the time of contact. The video was recorded by another motorist crossing the site after the incident had taken place.

Talking about the compact Comet EV, it boasts of a high-strength body featuring 17 hot stamping panels. On the other hand, the HyCross, despite receiving the impact, appears to be safe otherwise. The passengers and drivers are unlikely to have sustained any injuries due to the crash. Talking about the safety features provided in the Comet EV, it gets ABD, EBD, dual front airbags, rear parking camera and sensors, among others.

Nevertheless, the government in India is pushing hard and introducing initiatives/laws aimed at enhancing road safety. The cars manufactured after April 2021 are mandated to deploy frontal airbags on both seats. Furthermore, the Minister of Road Transport and Highways India, Nitin Gadkari, recently launched the Bharat NCAP voluntary assessment of cars.
