OpenAI announced on Wednesday that Sam Altman will be reinstating his role as CEO, following a new agreement. This change comes with the formation of a fresh initial board, comprising Bret Taylor, Larry Summers, and Adam D’Angelo.
“We have reached an agreement in principle for Sam to return to OpenAI as CEO with a new initial board of Bret Taylor (Chair), Larry Summers, and Adam D’Angelo,” it said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
In a statement, Sam Altman expressed his enthusiasm about his return: “I am looking forward to returning to OpenAI,” he said in a post on X.
Previously, on Monday, OpenAI had appointed former Twitch head Emmett Shear as the interim CEO. This was in the wake of Sam Altman transitioning to a role at Microsoft, one of OpenAI’s backers.
